Noh in the North

Join us for a day of workshops exploring Noh, Japan’s 650-year-old masked dance-drama, in a trailblazing event for Leeds and the North of England.
Combining movement, acting, music, poetry, and striking visual storytelling, Noh is one of the world’s oldest continuously performed theatre traditions.
No previous experience of Noh is required. The day will encourage exchange between different performance traditions and be particularly relevant to performers, musicians, singers, theatre-makers, directors, researchers, students and anyone curious about traditional Japanese theatre, music and literature.
This is a rare opportunity to experience this remarkable performance tradition first-hand. Through a varied programme of practical workshops, demonstrations and discussion, participants will discover how Noh performers use the body, voice, breath, rhythm, space and silence to create extraordinarily powerful performances.
