stage@leeds is a public contemporary performance space at the University of Leeds. We support artists, students, and researchers to develop and present new work across theatre, dance, digital performance, festivals, and scratch nights.

Alongside artist development, we run a year-round public programme of performances, showcasing bold and original work from visiting artists, local creatives, and emerging talent from the University. Many events are low-cost or free, making it easy for audiences to experience something new.

Located behind Leeds University Union and surrounded by gardens, the venue includes a 180-seat flexible main theatre, a 52-seat studio, a foyer performance area with a licensed bar, a dance studio, and rehearsal rooms.

We provide the space, resources, and technical support needed to create and share ambitious performance. Our building was the first UK theatre to receive a BREEAM “Excellent” rating, recognising its environmentally sustainable design.

Accessibility

stage@leeds is a flat floored venue with a lift for access to the upper floors. We have accessible, gender neutral bathrooms for public use.
